Harold REID was the son of Sir Thomas REID. Harold was a Member of the Institute of Civil Engineers, and became the Chief Assistant to the Divisional Engineer of the Great Western Railway in December 1915. After undergoing a course of training at the University College, London, he was articled to the Chief Engineer of the Great Northern Railway for 5 years until 1904. In 1908 he was Resident Engineer in charge of the construction of the G.W.R. Birmingham Moor Street stations, and the widening of the Bordesley to Moor Street viaduct.
"I recall my grandmother talking about him and his work on the railway. I believe that he was a senior engineer with the Great Western Railway. I also believe that he was the engineer responsible for the new Moor Street Station in Birmingham. Perhaps GWR records might reveal something." - Andrew S WEAVER
Not all was well though. In April 1916, at the Borough Petty Sessions. The Evesham Standard & West Midland Advertiser reported on 26 April 1916: "Harold REID, engineer, La Quinta, Browadway was sued by the Overseers of the Poor for Broadway for the non-payment of rates amounting to £2 19s 11d. Hr. Horace Gill, Assistant Overseer, Broadway, gave evidence. Defendant did not appear and an order for immediate payment was made; in default a distress warrant to issue."
