Ellen Harding BROWNING was the illegitimate daughter of Eliza BROWNING. Her chirstening record gives the mother as Eliza BROWNING, but no father is recorded.
Ellen appeared in the 1841 census (as Helen) with her grandfather Isaac BROWNING and in the 1851 census as granddaughter to Mary BROWNING.
Based on the Harding forename (which is not a BROWNING family name) it might be speculated that one of the two HARDING brothers - Thomas and Charles - was the father of Ellen. Thomas HARDING went on to have a large family in Tetbury so he is unlikely to be the father, however his younger brother Charles c.1809 either moved away or died young. Local burial records and parish records including paternity allegations should be checked.
Ellen later emigrated to Australia.
