Byberry Monthly Meeting

Whereas Jonathan Rumford son of jaune Romford of Plymouth in the county of Philadelphia and province of Pennsylvania and Susannah Nooks daughter of William Nooks of Middletown in the county of Chester and province aforesaid having declared the intention of marriage with each other before several monthly meetings of the people called Quakers at Concord in the said county of Chester according to their good order used among them and having the consent of parents and kindred and appearing clear of all others bear said proposal of marriage were allowed of by the said meetings. Now these are to certify whom it may concern that for the full accomplishing of their said intention this 8th day of the 4th month in the year of our Lord 1738 play the said Jonathan Rumford and Susannah Nooks appeared in a public meeting of the said people at Birmingham in the county of Chester aforesaid and the said Jonathan Rumford taking the said Susannah Nooks by the hand did in a solemn manner openly declare that he took her the said Susannah Nooks to be his wife promising to be unto her a loving and faithful husband until death should separate them, and then and there in the same assembly the said Susannah Nooks did in like manner declare that she took the said Jonathan Rumford to be her husband promising to be unto him a loving and faithful wife until death should separate them and moreover the said Jonathan Rumford and Susannah Nooks now Rumford (she according to the custom of marriage assuming the same of her husband) as a further confirmation thereof did then and there to these present set their hands; and we whose names are here under also subscribed being present at the solemnization of the said marriage an subscription have as witnesses there and to set our hands today and year above written.
