Narrative and Notes

"Black Jack" NELSON was the brother of brigham Williamson NELSON, the husband of Matilda ASH.

Black Jack was a notorious stagecoach robber and horse thief who was accidentally killed by a sack of falling wheat.

His infamy did not end with his death. Since his death in 1913, his ghost made periodic visits to a local farm house where he was an occasional guest. For years the family of the house would hear a man in heavy boots walk down the stairs, open the door, and leave. The stamp of his boots on the steps would often wake family members from a deep sleep. The following morning the door would be found left open. The odd thing was that no one ever heard him climb the stairs - only descend. During all those years, Black Jack's ghost never threatened anyone, he was just noisy. But perhaps he wasn't harmless after all. A few years ago the house was blown apart and the owner killed during an apparent suicide. Fortunately, no other members of the family were there. Was Black Jack's ghost involved in the incident? Since his haunting place is gone, will he move to a nearby farmhouse?
