Albert Edwards joined the Territorial Force for 4 years' Service in the United Kingdom on the 18 November 1910, aged 17 years and 9 months. He was attached to the 6th Bn Royal Warwickshire Regiment.
Initially he was based 'Home' and while in Billaricay was asked whether he would serve overseas (as TF soldiers were not obliged to do). Having volunteered for Imperial Service he was mobilised to serve in the British Expeditionary Force in France and landed at Le Havre on 22 Mar 1915 as part of 1/6th Royal Warwickshires. Here the formation became the 143rd Brigade of the 48th (South Midland) Division and engaged in various actions on the Western Front. The force was concentrated in Cassel near Hazebrouck in 1915.
He was repatriated on 4 Nov 1915 and discharged having served his 5 years' service on 17 Nov 1915, the service time having been increased due to the 'emergency'.
