Elizabeth, wife of William MILES, may have been born Elizabeth ASHBURNER. This is based on the 1650 Shenton baptismal record of her son John who was recorded as being "John MILES or ASHBURN" and her daughter Ann being referred to as "Ann MILES or ASHBURNER".
A James ASHEBURNER was baptised in Shenton in 1606, a potential father or uncle, and a will exists for a Michael ASHBURNER of Shenton from 1604, who might have been her paternal grandfather/great uncle. There were no other ASHBURNs in the immediate vicinity so on balance the surname was probably the more trade-oriented ASHBURNER.
No compelling baptism has been found. The best available are:
- 1625 at St Modwen's, Burton Upon Trent (20 miles away) by Robert ASHBURNE and Anna BRACKLEY
- 1626 in Coventry (16 miles) by William and Joan ASHBURNE
Elizabeth died shortly after the birth of her son Thomas in 1653 and was buried in Shenton with three of her five children.
