Agnes Ann was christened in 1857 in Killington where she lived. She married Jim Wharton, but had no descendants - she died of scarlet fever shortly after the birth of her first and only child.
She will be remembered for her diary she kept which had been transcribed and published by Judith Robinson.

The diary of 19-year old Agnes Ann Kendal, describes the life of a farmer's daughter in a small northern hamlet. Through her eyes, we glimpse a rural community whose farming calendar was relieved by a remarkably varied social life and the widening horizons of rail travel. Her writing is full of surprises: frank observations, excitement over a social gathering, annoyance at a family quarrel, appreciation of a beautiful day and the secret joys of a young woman in love.
Judith Robinson has researched the people and events mentioned in the diary and has alternated months of diary entries with short pieces telling some of the stories behind Agnes Ann Kendal's account of a year at Killington Hall.

There is one further fact you can add to your tree, if you wish. It relates directly to Agnes Ann. I told you she died while pregnant and lost the baby, which was what I had been told by my Aunt and read in the Wharton family bible "died of scarlet fever, her and the baby". But I finally got round to checking her burial record at Orton and was amazed to find the next entry 10 days later read "James Kendal Wharton" aged 2 weeks, son of James Wharton. The same appears in the local paper giving the baby£s date of death as 18th December 1882., i.e. 10 days after his mother. What I don£t know is his exact date of birth - was "2 weeks" an approximate age and (Agnes Ann KENDAL] AAK died in childbirth or was the baby born before she died, but had the fever too and died 4 days later?
