Narrative and Notes

Lancelot was also known as George Machell - the Priest.

He entered Douai, a Catholic seminary, on 27 May. He was sent to Rome on 8 Aug 1607, but was troublesome and was returned to Douai in 1612. He was sent back to England but re-entered Douai on 20 Apr 1614 only to be expelled on 5 Aug 1616 " on account of certain imperfections that were obvious to all".

He was readmitted 15 Dec 1617 and ordained on 14 Apr 1618. 'George' was sent to England on 12 Jun 1618.

By 1632 he was a missionary in London but was "...turbulent & a troublemaker..." "haunted taverns almost daily & stayed until midnight...".

In 1652 he was in Newgate Prison indicted for saying Mass in Holborn.
