I think you asked in your last email about Richard B-Smith - the other
abstract that I have posted. Yes, he is mine. Son of Richard B-Smith who
died intestate in 1708, and Joan Garraway.
His will allowed me to go back to the Tetbury registers, and sort out the
family - some baptised as SMITH, some as BARTHOLOMEW - and a few [including
my own Jane - who later married Richard BISHOP] with the alias.
Have you noticed in John's will, though - that Elizabeth's brother is plain
SMITH - no Bartholomew! I haven't worked out who Elizabeth is yet.
Jeremiah etc.- he was baptised Tetbury 5 Jun 1658
Married Elizabeth SMITH at Tetbury 5 Feb 1675/6. She died after 1719 [from
John's will]
Jeremiah buried at Tetbury 23 Nov 1695 [I think I may have misled you in
saying that Jeremiah made his will in 1689 - in fact, that was Jeremiah
senior - so Hester could just about be a posthumous child, and baptised a
little late in 1696]
Children:
Hester - married John English - no marriage found - poss 2nd marriage.
Jeremiah bap 23 Jan 1678/9 at Tetbury - Apprenticeship 7 Jan 1692/3.
Bartholomew bap 2 Mar 1680/1 - probably died young - though no burial found.
John bap 29 Dec 1681 - buried 18 May 1719 - both events at Tetbury
Ann bap 28 Dec 1684 at Tetbury - still single in 1719
Charles bap 17 Feb 1686/7 at Tetbury - married Grace - surname unknown.
Buried Tetbury 1 Jun 1746
Charles children: Hester 1710/1, James 1714
Thomas born c 1690 - baptism not found
Lydia baptised 28 Sep 1691
More typing! :-)
Best wishes
Ruth
