Sarah DAY married her sister Elizabeth's widower husband George SHEPPARD from Bretforton against the rules of the Church of England. This could explain why they married anonymously at St Clement, Worcester on 15th July 1799. George and Elizabeth had had three children. George and Sarah added two more children to the family including Samuel SHEPPARD.
Matching signatures prove this illegal marriage, together with Thomas DAY's will, written in 1812, and proved in November 1815. This provided independent and unequivocal proof that George SHEPPARD had married the two daughters of Thomas DAY.
