DEATH OF MR WILLIAM WEAVER

We regret to have to record the death of Mr. William Weaver, builder and contractor, which occurred at his residence, The Strand, early on Thursday morning. Mr. Weaver had been seriously ill for a long time, suffering from a complication of complaints, but latterly he had seemed much better, and the end came somewhat suddenly. The deceased, who was a Bromsgrove man, was 56 years of age, and he was widely known and highly respected. He took an active part in public affairs for many years and was a member of the old Town Local Board and afterwards of the Urban District Council. He was a regular attendant at the meetings, and up to the time of his death was Chairman of the Lighting Committee of the Council. In the latter capacity he was engaged in the controversy which arose with regard to the lighting of the public lamps some two years ago, and he also assisted to bring about the lighting of Sidemoor. Mr. Weaver was one of the overseers of the poor, and he has also been bailiff of Bromsgrove. He was an old Volunteer, and it is interesting to recall that he was a student of the School of Art in its early days, and a successful prize-winner. In his business he was popular with his workmen, and in the course of a long career he took part in a number of important contracts, including Rainbow Hill church, Worcester; St. Godwald's Church, Finstall; Catshill and All Saints' Vicarages the Board Schools at Stourbridge Road, Catshill, Lickey End and Dodford; All Saints' Schoolroom; the Big School at Bromsgrove School; Bromsgrove Police Buildings, and the Institute. Mr. Weaver leaves four children, two sons and two daughters, all of whom are grown up.
