Narrative and Notes

James SAGAR may have been a clockmaker like his father Edmund. This requires more research but a longcase clock by J SAGAR of Blackburn came to auction in 2023 (pictured). No further information was provided by the auction house other than being described as 19th century, but the style is very close to that of his father Edmund SAGAR of Skipton. Other members of the SAGAR family did move to Blackburn, so it is entirely possible that a move from a rural market town to a booming city with existing family is entirely possible.

However there were multiple clock making SAGARs in Blackburn shown in censuses but born in Blackburn, including Robert Holgate SAGAR born c.1825, and James SAGAR, born c.1835.

More research is needed.
