Narrative and Notes

Thomas CLAYTON was born in about 1759/60. No baptism has been found.

In 1841 census he was 81 and recorded as being a shopkeeper, probably a 'retirement' job as his death certificate lists his profession as woodman. He was living with his daughter-in-law Elizabeth and grandaughters Mary, Sarah and Dinah and grandson George.

He died of old age in 1843 aged 83. His son William reported the death.

No compelling baptismal or burial records for any children and no marriage have been identified. The closest baptismal match is Thomas CLAYTON baptized by Abraham CLAYTON of Long Drax on 20 Oct 1762 in Drax, however that child died in infancy.

Possible marriages from Boyds:

1773 Jane BALEY Kippax Yorkshire

1775 Eliz STAINTON Tickhill Yorkshire

1795 Martha WILLSON Church Fenton (witnessed by Francis and Sarah CLAYTON) Church Fenton is 5 miles from Thorpe Willoughby - but this is after the estimated birthyear of son William.
