Narrative and Notes

Esther was registered as Esther Eleanor, but baptised as Esther Ellen.

She married George TILLS in 1855, but it appears to have been an unhappy marriage. in 1861 she was admitted to the Workhouse for 12 days owing to her husband being "absent".

George eventually died in an asylum in Watford, possibly from tertiary or brain syphilis.

It's not yet clear whether Esther received a formal divorce, but an Esther Helen TILLS married either Thomas Robert BARWOOD or James William HOYLE in 1870 in Islington. This may not be Esther, but either way no 1871 census record has been found for this couple, so they may have emigrated shortly after their marriage.
