Sampson lived to the ripe old age of 91. He was born in 1627 to parents Sampson and Elizabeth PARKES, and was baptized in Waterfall, near Stoke-on-Trent.
It's most likely that he was a husbandman. While this is not supported by any documentary evidence, his sons were recorded as being husbandmen.
He married Mary PRINCE in 1650/51 in Waterfall. Their marriage last almost 50 years, ending when Mary died in 1699.
When Sampson died in 1718, he left a will in which he mentioned five of his seven children: John, Mary HARRISON, Elizabeth GELL, Sampson and William. Only John's children were mentioned, indeed John's son, John, was named as executor despite being only 18 years old. The remainder of Sampson's estate was left to his youngest child, William. Presumably, the older children had already been provided for.
He was buried in Waterfall, with the burial record noting that he was "an ancient man".
