Narrative and Notes

Sarah Ann EDWARDS was baptized in March 1822.

She had left home by the 1841 census, and may have been any one of the several Sarah EDWARDS in domestic service at that time.

She married Mark Augustin RAWLINS, a Catholic, on 14 Oct 1850. In 1851 the couple were living on Clarendon Street, Aston with her sister Elizabeth who was working as a laundress. Sarah Ann was a button carder. A button card would sew buttons onto printed cards ready for retail.

The marriage certificate of Sarah Ann EDWARDS and Mark Augustin RAWLINS confirms the name of her father and his profession as engineer.

By 1871 'Ann' was working as a stationer, as was her daughter Mary Ann. mark and Ann also had four sons: Francis, Alfred, Edward and Stephen.

Sarah Ann outlived her husband, who died in 1878.

She was living with her son Albert in 1891 and died in the autumn of 1893.
