In the name of God Amen I Thomas Dewsbury of Walton in the parish of Knaptoft in the County of Leicester Yeoman being weak of body but of sound and perfect mind and memory praise be given to Almighty God I do make and ordain this my present last will and testament in manner and form following, that is to say

First and principally of from and my soul onto the hands of almighty God hoping through the merits death and passion of my saviour Jesus Christ to have full and free pardon for all my sins and to enter into everlasting life, and my body I commit to the earth to be decently buried at my executors discretion hereafter mentioned and as touching such corporal estate as if as it hath pleased almighty God to bestow of me I give and dispose there of as followeth

I will that my debts and funeral charges shall be paid and discharged

Item I give unto my grandchildren Richard Thornton William Thornton Mary Thornton and Martha Thornton each of them the sum of four pounds and seven shillings apiece at the age of 1 and 20 years as it shall become due

Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Mary Thornton the sum of twenty pounds of like lawful money to be paid her twelve months after my decease and to have the kibbling & the bay of Barning next [to] it allowing her brother Thomas Dewsbury liberty to brew and bake in it and further my will is that her brother Thomas Dewsbury shall also allow her yearly for three years two strike of wheat two strike of rye two strike of malt and four strike of barley and her enjoy the said kibbling and bay of barning rent free so long as she shall keep herself a widow And fetch her a load of coals she paying fo them at the pits for two years

item I give to my loving wife all the household goods she's brought with her

Item I give unto my grandson Thomas Thornton one of the bellows that shall be then in my house and the sum of two pounds and six shilling six months after my decease

Item It is my will that if my executor should not pay all my debts and legacies above mentioned or [gi to rehome] they shall become due to such securities as they shall like within twelve months after my decease that then my cousin Thomas Browne of Walton shall have the full power and authority to sell the half yardland that I purchased off John Winterton of Lowdon with all the appurtenance whatsoever there unto belonging at the base rate he can for the payment of death above said legacies allowing of him all reasonable charges for doing of the same and I give him half a crown to buy him a pair of gloves and desire him to be overseer of this my will.

Item All the rest of my goods shall tools and kettle whatsoever unbequeathed I give to my loving son Thomas Duseberry and make him sole executor of this my last will and testament revoking all former wills whatsoever by me made in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 26th day of December in the year of our Lord 1693.
