Narrative and Notes

When Mary married William THORNTON of Gilmorton in October 1682 she was living in Walton in the Parish of Knaptafft [Knaptoft]. Walton is less than 1 mile from Kimcote and just a mile from Gilmorton.

The marriage was at Shearsby, which is adjacent to their parish church at Knaptoft, but 5 miles from Kimcote and Gilmorton.

No clear baptismal record for Mary has been found, but are some candidates:

A potential sister, Elizabeth DASEBERRY, was baptised by Thomas and Dorothy in Kimcote in 1658, who would have been 23 when Mary married in 1682.

A Thomas DUESBERRY, also of Walton, prepared a will dated 20 Dec 1724, in which he bequeathed his sisters

Catherine, Mary and Jane a small building (provided they never married) and the rest to his wife Mary, and afterwards to his daughter Mary. This suggests that he was quite young when he died. He was probably a nephew to Mary (who had died two years earlier). He also gave a property called Homestead Hall to his brother William DUESBERRY of Cosby, a tailor.
