Narrative and Notes

Dinah CLAYTON was born in 1831 and was the ninth of twelve children.

She is identified as the mother of William BEEVERS on his birth certificate. She married George BE(E)VERS, a railway guard, porter and hydraulic liftman for Midland Railway.

Dinah died on 29 Jan 1892, aged 60, of hepatic dropsy (a form of liver failure) at her home, 10 Hague Terrace, Orange Street, Nottingham.

There seems to have been some confusion about her forename. While she is Diana on William's birth certificate, Dinah on the 1871 census and on an LDS transcription of the 1881 Census; and on the 1891 Census at the same address she is clearly Hanah. And on her death certificate she is Diana. Dinah/Diana couldn't read and write (she'd made her mark on her son's birth certificate) and perhaps she had a Yorkshire accent to further confuse government officials! Dinah, though, is the name on her wedding certificate, two censuses and on her christening record.
