Narrative and Notes

The Emma JONES living with Edward and Mary PARKER in 1841 is thought to be Mary's sister. She was aged 25-29 in 1841. The whole family was marked as having been born in Warwickshire, but

Checked all Emma JONES marriages 1841 to 1851 (20 identified in Birmingham) to find a good candidate and check birth places. Most of the Emma's were too young or could not be found. One remaining Emma of interest:

- Emma JONES married William YARDLEY, pearl button maker in 1843. She was aged 36 in 1851, birth place given as "At sea". In 1881 she was from the "Isle of Wight" and in 1891 from "Ireland" (which could easily be a census taker's mistake.) Could Emma and Mary been sailor's daughters? A Captain Jones of the Royal Navy was active in and around Portsmouth, mainly on Channel based cruises in the early 1800's. A Captain Jones is mentioned leading the dancing in a ball in Chichester to celebrate Nelson victory at Trafalgar in 1805 attended by the Prince of Wales.
