Narrative and Notes

Of the three children from Margaret BLOWER's first marriage to Ralph COTON, only Mary Ann appears to have survived long enough to appear in John PARKER's will of Oct 1836.

John PARKER described her as a daughter-in-law Mary Ann SUNDERLAND wife of Charles Wesley SUNDERLAND.

Mary Ann had married Josiah ADAMS in 1807 (aged 15) in Edgbaston, and then as Mary Ann ADAMS married Charles Wesley SUNDERLAND in May 1817 in Birmingham.

Mary Ann died on 16 Nov 1870 at Handsworth aged 78, suggesting a birth date of 1792. The 1861 census has her aged 68 and born in Birmingham. This agrees with the 1851 census when she is living next door to a John PARKES, a proprietor of houses, who happens to have a plater visiting. Could that be John and Margaret's son John PARKER, a plater, you died a year later in 1852?

Charles died 22 Dec 1869 aged 75 at Lozells, Handsworth. He was a coal dealer working out of Old Wharf, Birmingham until 1853.
