Esmore was a professional pianist. He had a band that played social events in the 1950s in Evesham, called the Esmore Stokes Quartet, sometimes Trio, or just the Esmore Stokes Band. In 1954 he played the part of 'Cinders' in a Christmas pantomime Cinderalla at the Crown Hotel, Evesham with four other gentlemen in the main roles at a Evesham Rowing Club Chirstmas party.
During WW2, Esmor was with the Royal Marines. He was a frogman on D-Day (Sword beach) but, in the event, had nothing to do - not needed. At the end of the war, Esmor went to Ceylon with the Royal Marines.
He had a son Jeremy who died in London in his 30's. Jeremy was gay and it is possible that he was an early AIDS victim. A Jeremy Paul STOKES died in Wandsworth, London in 1994, and a Jeremy P STOKES was born in Evesham in Q2 1958, with a mother's maiden name of DARKE.
