Narrative and Notes

On 25 Dec 1834 a Sarah BAILEY married John SICKELWOOD in Burbage. John was unable to sign, but Sarah did. The two witnesses were John BEASLEY and Jane BLABY.

The unique surname was likely an inaccurate transcription as John could not write his own name. The was a family called SHITTLEWOOD/SHUTTLEWOOD in Hinckley at the time. A John SHITTLEWOOD died in Hinckley in 1839, but John, a publican, and Sarah SHITTLEWOOD were living in Grove Street, Hinckley with children Ann, 4 and John, 2.
