Sarah "ELITT" spinster of the Parish of Kenilworth married Daniel BATES in July 1756. It is thought she was actually from Allesley where the couple raised their family.
The only nearby baptism of a Sarah ELITT or similar was Sara ELLIOT, in Allesley, daughter of Richard and Mary of "Stonely" in 1735. Her sister's baptismal record gives her name as Hannah ELLIT so perhaps that reflected the pronunciation.
When Sarah's son Joseph's daughter Elizabeth BATES was married in 1818 the witnesses were Daniel BATES (Sarah's husband) and Elizabeth ELLIOTT. Elizabeth may have one of two of Sarah's cousins born in 1737 and 1739 in Allesley to fathers William and Thomas ELLIOT.
Sarah died in May 1772, a year after the birth of her youngest son Thomas. She was buried in Stoneleigh.
