John SPENCE is the likely father of Margaret SPENCE, single mother of Dinah SPENCE baptized 1739.

John married Ann SIMPSON in April 1701 in Fewston, and they had at least six children between 1703 and 1717, although there is a gap between 1703 and 1708 and there are two undated Fewston baptismal records (John and one whose name is lost) with a father named John SPENCE who may fall in this period. In late October 1717 their last child, Anne, was buried.

Ann must have died at the same time, as John married a Mary FAWCET on 16 Apr 1718. John went to baptize a further six children.
