Narrative and Notes

John was baptized in 1685 in Ashby Magna, Leicestershire by William and Alice GROOCOCK.

When his father William died in 1712, John and his two sons, William and Richard, were left one shilling apiece³. Either he had already received some land, perhaps when he married Elizabeth WOOD in Stoney Stanton in 1707, or he had fallen out with his father.

He died aged just 43 in 1729, and was buried in Leicester². His widow died three years later and was buried in Stoney Stanton¹.
