William was a butcher from Ashby Magna.
His wife Alice bore him four sons baptized between 1685 and 1690. His youngest son Edward died in infancy. Alice died in 1702.
William married Anne SWAN in 1705. They had a son Richard baptized in Jan 1710/11 and daughters Alice and Anne, presumably named for his wives.
In William's will of 1712 he left the bulk of his estate (worth over £234) to his son Thomas GROOCOCK. His son Robert received £10 and his sons Richard, William and John received only one shilling apiece.
My guess is that John, William's eldest son, had already received a settlement when he married. His brother Thomas as the next male heir received the residue, with younger Robert left a smaller bequest.
The children of his second wife received either a shilling or nothing. His daughter Alice was not mentioned, and no provision was made for his unborn child that his wife was carrying. Richard received one shilling. It's likely that the son William was also Anne's perhaps born in 1709 or 1712, but no record has been identified yet.
This division of wealth might indicate that William's wealth had come from his first wife, Alice.
