Narrative and Notes
John was married three times, but his five children were all from his first marriage with Elizabeth OSBORNE. His wife died a few weeks after their last child Edward was baptized, and Edward died 5 months later.
John was remarried quickly, to Mary WORTH on 19 Sep 1718 who then died on 21 Sep 1720.
John then married Mary HAWKINS in the following August.
In John PRATT's last will and testament of 1733 he makes the following bequests:
- his wife, Mary, daughter Martha, son William and daughter June (Anne), the sum of £20 apiece
- son Michael, 1 shilling, but perhaps £20, dependent on certain stipulations entered into with John's former wife Mary WORTH,
- son John, his main part of his estate.
In a codicil his left Martha his "post bed in the parlour, blankets, pillows, sheets, curtains and hanging thereto".
John, farmer, died a wealthy man with assets of £274 6s 0d in inventory including:
- cheese - £13
- 16 cows - £55
- 5 heifers - £17
- 10 'storks' a year older - £20
- 11 calves - £13
- 2 mares and foals - 20
- 2 fillies -£10
- 95 sheep - £45
- wool - £111
