Joseph was a lead miner who was born, lived and died in Greenhow near Pateley Bridge.
His wife was probably the Jane SIMPSON, wife of Joseph of Greenhow Hill, who was buried on 9 Jan 1767. No marriage has been found, so her surname is unknown and it's unclear which of Joseph's six children she bore.
There is a burial of a Joseph SYMPSON in Pateley Bridge in April 1746, but it's not clear whether this is Joseph's or his father's burial.
There's another burial on 10 Mar 1785/86 for a Joseph SIMPSON of "F Earth" in Pateley Bridge, however this could either be Joseph, aged ~70, or his son b 1743, aged 42. "F Earth" refers to Fountains Earth, an area of Nidderdale, up the hill from from Ramsgill, where there were lead mines and quarries. This is 10 miles from Green How, but in 1786 he would be in his 70s so retired, and maybe living with family.
