Thomas HILL, a fellmonger, and his wife Rachael baptized their first child, Ann, in Grimston in March 1711 (or 1712 under the Gregorian calendar). They baptized their three later children in Asfordby including a second Ann following the death of the first Ann in 1714.
A fellmonger is a dealer of skins and hides, most likely sheepskin. He may also have prepared the skins for tanning.
No marriage can be found for a Thomas HILL marrying a Rachael.
A Thomas HILL died in 1724 and was buried in Asfordby. He died intestate and the probate admon record was signed by Thomas' wife Rachael and his grazier firend, William MASON, confirming that this burial was Thomas'.
Based on the baptismal date of Thomas' first (known) child, and assuming he married in his twenties, Thomas would have been born in 1680-90. A Thomas HILL was baptized by John and An HILL in Asfordby on 2 May 1686. Another Thomas HILL was baptized in Grimston by Robert and Ann HILL, blacksmith on 14 May 1682. Neither of these Thomas HILLs had an associated burial, so either one might be correct given the Asfordby and Grimston connections. That said the Grimston baptism is less likely in that a blacksmith is less likely to have a fellmonger as a son.
