Thomas VEASEY of Sapcote, husbandman, married Margaret BOYLSON of Burbage in 1640. They baptized five children in Burbage and adopted two of Thomas' nephews. There was also a daughter named "Dattelle" whose name is uncertain and for which no baptism has been found. Another adopted child?
He prepared a will in 1689 naming:
- son Francis VEASEY £16
- daughter Elizabeth VEASEY (I think this was intended to be his daughter-in-law Elizabeth below)
- granddaughter Elizabeth VEASEY, daughter of his son Levey VEASEY deceased, £15
- son John BOYLSTON 4 pence
- son Thomas BOYLSON 1 shilling
- daughter Dattelle 5 shillings
- grandson John GAMBOLL 5 shillings
- granddaughter Margarit ALLISONN 5 shillings
- daughter-in-law Elizabeth VEASEY widow (who was also named executrix), the residue of the estate.
The BOYLS(T)ON brothers were the sons of John Robert BALSTON (d. 1639) and Mary VESIE (d. 1650) who were married in Burbage in 1628. It is thought that Mary was Thomas' sister, and the BOYS(T)ON boys his nephews and later adopted sons.
Grandson John GAMBOLL was the son of Richard GAMBLE of "Stoke in Notingamshire" and Thomas' daughter Margaret VESE who married in Aston Flamville 21 July 1668.
Thomas was buried 28 Feb 1692/93. An inventory of his estate was valued at £66 18s 10d is given below.1
Thomas' parents
There is no baptism of a Thomas VEASY (or similar) in Sapcote (his location when he married) during the period 1610-1620 when was most likely born.
A Thomas VECY was baptized in 1586 in Sapcote by John VECY2, but this baptism is too early for a man who died in 1692/3. John also baptized Richard (1581), Robert (1582), William (1584) and Francisca (1589). Either of the boys might have been Thomas' father. John might have been his grandfather and might have been the John VECY who was buried in March 1589/90.
A Thomas VEASEY was baptized by George VEASEY in nearby Narborough in December 1609. George had also baptized James, Edward, Ales/Alyce, and another Thomas in November 1608. This would make him 31 when he married which seems a bit old.
If Mary VESIE (above) was Thomas' sister then her baptism might help. A Mary VESYE the daughter of Thomas VESIE was baptized in Narborough on 27 Jan 1615/6 which is too late for her to have married John BOYLSON in 1628. No other Mary VEASY (or similar) baptism has been found locally.
My best guess is that Thomas' father was the Thomas VECY baptized in Sapcote in 1586 by John VECY, but we'd need to find baptisms for Thomas and Mary to be more certain.
