Joseph WEAVER was born in 1821. He married Elizabeth GRIFFIN in late 1843 and they had four children between 1844 and 1849.
In 1851 he was a publican and in 1855 was described as a victualler and farmer of The Sampson in Worcester St, Bromsgrove. Also in the 1851 census his eldest daughter, Elizabeth, is resident with Joseph and Elizabeth GRIFFIN and is described as a relative, but would have been her parents.
Elizabeth died some time between 1851 and 1858, and Joseph took up with her sister Jane GRIFFIN, whom he didn't appear to marry, but with whom he did have a further six children between 1858 and 1869. Jane was also the sister of John GRIFFIN, house servant to the family in 1851.
On 9 Jan 1856, Joseph appeared in the Worcestershire Chronicle having been fined 2s 6d and 10s 6d costs for deficient ale jugs.
In 1860 Joseph is reported in the local paper buying a house and land at Sidemoor for £1,214 and, in 1863, a further two pieces of building land at Sidemoor for £592.
Joseph died in December 1871 and left the Sampson Inn to his "younger" son Joseph. This implies that John was still living when the will was written.
