William NEWBOULT/NEWBOULT/NEWBOLD was born in Greenhow Hill in 1762. Greenhow Hill is the highest village in England. He was baptized by William NEWBOULD in Pateley Bridge on 21 Nov 1762.
He married Mary WALKER in Pateley Bridge in 1783. Both were minors and had there parents' consent. One of the witnesses to this marriage was Peter SIMPSON who was the brother of his son John's future wife's grandfather!
They christened a child, Robert, in Burnsall in 1784 and three children in Pateley Bridge between 1790 and 1795 (Sally, Palley and Jacob) before moving to Lofthouse where Jacob was buried on 1 May 1796.
When he moved his family to Lofthouse, he was not alone. James JOY and his family also made the move to Lofthouse at the same time. They were undoubtedly close friends and he would have been pleased that his son John NEWBOULD married James' daughter Hannah JOY in 1820.
William NEWBOULD and Mary had four more children in or around Lofthouse/Rothwell between 1797 and 1805. It is almost certain that William had been a slate miner but became a coal miner like his son John.
