A probable first wife was Anne LANE whom a Thomas CIVIL of Berrow married in January 1772 in Birtsmorton, by license. Thomas and Anne baptized five children: Elizabeth 1772, Thomas 1775, Mary 1778, Ann 1779 (died aged 2 weeks) and John 1780. The first was baptized in Birtsmorton and the remainder in Berrow.
Anne died in December 1780, and Thomas SIVELL married Elizabeth RUSSELL in January 1783. From the marriage license we know he was a widower and was aged 39, suggesting he was born in 1743 (or Jan 1744). Elizabeth was aged 36 suggesting a birth year of 1746 (or Jan 1747). The witnesses were William SIVELL and Mary LANE. It is not clear who William SIVELL was, but perhaps he was a brother. Mary LANE may have been his first wife's mother.
Thomas and Elizabeth had 6 children who all survived until 1819 when Thomas' last will and testament was written and explicitly gave their names in the correct order. Their names: William 1783, Robert 1785, Samuel 1787, Ann 1789, Charles 1791 and Sarah 1793, were all different from those from his first marriage except for Ann whose namesake had died in infancy in 1797. If his first wife was Anne LANE then why did he only leave his estate to his children by Elizabeth RUSSELL nee WHITE? Were the children from his first marriage already taken care of through Anne LANE's will?
Thomas appears in an 1806 Poll Book as Thos SEVIL Sen[ior] residing at Berrow with a freeholding in Redmarley D'Abitot (possibly Hill House as mentioned below) then occupied by Geo[rge] SPENCER. He voted for William Lyttelton, 3rd Baron Lyttelton, a Whig politician who lost that election to W.B.Lygon.
Thomas died in January 1822 and was buried in Berrow. He left his house "Hill House" in Redmarley D'Abitot to his children, all of whom were still living when the will was written in 1819. His estate was valued at £450.
There are records on Family Search that suggest Thomas SIVELL was born in 1840. Parents: Thomas SIVELL and Mary SERMON. Another records suggests Thomas SIVELL and Mary ROBINSON. A family tree provided by Shirley SIVELL in 2020 gives the former of these records, and three earlier generations.
An Ancestry File record gives: b. 3 Jan 1740, c. 10 Nov 1742 Berrow, Worcs, d./bur. 10 Jan 1822 Tredington, Gloucs. He was living in Tredington when he wrote his will in 1819, but was buried in Berrow, so this record is not wholly accurate.
