Narrative and Notes

Margaret BURNETT was living in Linton, Yorkshire when she married John JOY of Thorpe in 1712. They had four children baptized: Thomas 1713, Robert 1716, James 1719 and William 1723.

It's possible that Margaret was baptized by Thomas BURNITT in Kirkby Malham, Yorkshire on 11 Apr 1686. Kirkby Malham is 10 miles west of Linton. This would make her 26 when she was married. All other candidate baptisms are more than 20 miles away. There are no other baptisms by a Thomas BURNITT or similar in the area, but a Thomas BURNETT married Alice ANDERSON in Kirkby Malham in 1682.An Alice BURNETT, wife of Thomas, was buried in Kirkby Malham on 12 Sep 1703, so perhaps Margaret was their only child. A Thomas BURNETT was buried on 26 May 1716 in Burnsall, where Margaret was married in 1712, so perhaps they had moved to Burnsall after Alice's death.

Margaret JOY died in 1739.
