Sarah JOW married Jacob WALKER in Pateley Bridge in 1759. The lived in Greenhowhill and Coldstonefold so it is likely that he was a lead miner.
Sarah had three children with Jacob: Ann (1761), Mary (1764) and Sarah (1767), however Jacob died in January 1767 before Sarah was born.
The widowed Sarah married a widower, James JOY in December 1771, his wife having died earlier that year.
Their son James was baptized in February 1773 while James and Sarah were living at Craven Kell (the western part of Greenhow Hill).
There were two other possible children of James and Sarah in Pateley Bridge (or Burnsall) in the following years:
- Mary 1780, James JOY of "M.F." - although a second Mary in the family would be unlikely as no burial for Sarah's daughter Mary WALKER has been found, although perhaps a second Mary would be a memorial to James' first wife Mary MANGHAM or to his first daughter Mary JOY, who had died in infancy.
- Michael 1783, baptized by James and Sarah JOY of Greenhow Hill, in Burnsall - They would have been in their 40's when Michael was born.
There are several funerals of Sarah JOY recorded, so it is not possible to identify the correct date.
Sarah's grandson John NEWBOLD (by her daughter Mary WALKER) married her granddaughter Hannah JOY (by her son James JOY). They were half-1st cousins.
