In the name of God Amen I Thomas Wheelwright of Rotherby in this County of Leicester Gardiner being very weak in health of body but of sound mind and memory praised the God do make and appoint this my last Will and Testament in manner following that is to say, First and principally I assign my soul into the hands of almighty God hoping through the alone Merits of my dear Redeemer Jesus Christ to have Remission of all my sins, and to inherit eternal life: And my Body I commit to the Earth to be decently interred at the discretion of my Executrix herein after named and all my Temporal estates bestowed upon me by the Blessing and Good Providence of God I give and dispose thereof as followeth.
First, I will that my debts and funeral charges shall be paid and discharged.
Item, I do give and bequeath unto my son William Wheelwright the sum of five pounds to be paid within a year after my decease
Item, I do give and bequeath unto my son John Wheelwright the sum of six pounds to be paid within a year after my decease.
Item, I give to my said son John Wheelwright my greatest brass pan and a book entitled The Whole Duty of Man.
Item, I do give unto my four grandchildren, that is to say, Thomas Underwood, William Underwood, Mary Underwood and Elizabeth Underwood, the sum of eight pounds apiece to be paid at their respective ages of twenty and one years, and also one ewe and a lamb to every of them.
Item, I give to my Nephew William Blankley and to my niece Mary Hodge one pound apiece.
And all the rest and residue of my personal estate, goods and chattels whatsoever, I do give and bequeath unto my loving daughter Mary Underwood whom I do make and appoint full and sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament revoking and making void all former Wills and Testaments.
I the said Thomas will write to this my last Will and Testament have set my hand and seal the two and twentieth day of June in the year of our Lord God one thousand seven hundred and thirty eight.
And also, I give unto my said son John Wheelwright the sum of four pounds more.
