Mudwin married Thomas WHEELWRIGHT some time prior to the birth of their daughter Elizabeth in 1684. There was another son William, whose birth/baptism is unknown but was likely in about 1681-3 because he was the first mentioned son in his father's will, so the likely marriage was probably about 1680-1682.
Assuming that this was her first marriage then she would have been about 21-28 when married, so a birth year range of 1652-1661.
The are only a handful of baptisms of a Mudwin/Muddin/Mudwyn/Mudden currently indexed. Mudwin is a very rare name and apparently confined to the Countries of Leicester, Nottingham and Derby in the 16th and 17th centuries.
One possible baptismal record is a Mudwin COMPTON, who was baptized in Melton Mowbray on 30 May 1651, daughter of Eustace COMPTON of Ekettleby, miller, and Elizabeth. Eustace had buried his previous wife, Mary, and an infant in 1648. Eustace and Elizabeth baptized a daughter Elizabeth on 25 Aug 1655, but his wife Elizabeth was buried two days later on 27 Aug 1855. Eustace married Ann DOODLE, spinster, on 7 Dec 1656, and they baptized and buried Thomas in 1657. Ekettleby (now Ab Kettleby) is 3 miles north of Melton Mowbray of the Nottingham road and is 7 miles across fields from Rotherby. Eustace was born in 1619 in Garthorpe, 6 miles east of Melton Mowbray. A Eustace COMPTON was buried in Woolsthorpe, Lincolnshire in 1711, but would have been a very old man.
If this is the correct Mudwin then she would have been 30 years old when she married Thomas WHEELWRIGHT and therefore Thomas may have been a second marriage.
Other information:
A generation earlier a Mudwin WORMEWELL was baptized in 1627 in Melton Mowbray. Perhaps this Mudwin was 'Muddin' the wife of Henry CRODIN when they baptized a son, Henry, in Melton Mowbray in 1654.
A Mudwyn RUSSELL was baptized in Garthorpe in 1606 by Edward RUSSELL. Did the young Eustace COMPTON know her?
Another Mudwin baptism is a Mudwin STACY of Rotherby in the County of Leicester in October 1622 by a William STACY, but was buried a month later. Clearly there was confusion about the spelling as 'Muddin' was corrected to 'Mudwin' on the original document.
A different Mudwin STACYE married Thomas ASTELL on 11 Feb 1632 in Thrussington. Thrussington is 2 miles from Rotherby. This Mudwin left a will dated 1680, but made no mention of another Mudwin.
The earliest Mudwin was Mudwin CHUNCEY baptized in Melton Mowbray in 1553.
