Narrative and Notes

Jeremiah was an innkeeper, probably in Woodkirk where he was buried.

There is a property transaction dated 13-14 Jun 1710 referring to property in Lightcliffe called the Great House and the Little House in the occupation of Jeremiah PEARSON and Joseph FIRTH. Lightcliffe is 2 miles from Coley Church and may have been where Jeremiah was living prior to his marriage.

In Lightcliffe is the Sun Inn, a coaching inn on what was the main road to London. It is likely that Jeremiah was involved in the inn's business.

He married Martha THORNTON in 1713 under licence, possibly because she was from Wakefield and he Halifax. He was 30 years old and she 25. The couple had three children, but he died in 1718 a year after his son John was baptized. He was just 35 years old.
