Richard SMITH is identified as the father of Phoebe SMITH on her christening record. One of Phoebe's sons was named Richard Smith WEAVER in his honour.
There are 108 birth/christening records for Richard SMITHs in Worcestershire, but only two from Bromsgrove:
1. Richard SMITH, 23 Aug 1710 Bromsgrove (Benjamin SMITH)
2. Richard SMITH, 25 Aug 1714 Bromsgrove (Richard and Ann SMITH)
Even the later record would make Richard 34 when married and 49 when the youngest daughter, Ann, was christened.
All of Richard and Joan's children were baptized in Bromsgrove except for Mary who was baptized in Tardebigge in 1752.
In 1755, a Richard SMITH, a farmer in Tutnell near Bromsgrove, is bound over for £40 by the Bromsgrove Parish to indemnify them against the potential costs of a bastard child fathered by one his workers. Tutnall is 2 miles from St John's, Bromsgrove and just 2/3 miles from St Bartholomew's, Tardebigge, so would be a reasonable fit, however a different Richard SMITH married Elizabeth MEDLEY in 1751 in Targebigge, so we can't tell which Richard SMITH was the Tutnall farmer.
