Narrative and Notes
In an undated document of approximately 1200, William MALUS CATULUS made a grant to his brother Alexander of two bovates of land in Crakenthorp with a messuage. This was witness, amongst others, by Geoffrey MALUS CATULUS.
Similarly that is another grant of the same period, from Henry, son of Geoffrey MALUS CATULUS to Alexander, son of Ralph of Crakenthorp, two bovates of land and two acres of meadow with tofts and crofts in Crakenthorp.
It would appear that the corruption of the name was happening at this time as all later references used MAUCHAELL or MAUCHELL.
