John SCOTT was born on 18 Nov 1837 in Woolpack Yard, Kendal, Westmoreland. His parents were Thomas and Hannah SCOTT with whom he is living in 1851.
It is likely that John served an apprenticeship is the woodworking trade in Kendal, possibly with John FISHER where another John SCOTT, possibly a cousin, was serving his apprenticeship in 1851. John FISHER's servant at that time was Nancy MACHELL whose sister John SCOTT later married.
By 1861 John was living in the heart of Liverpool at 50/52 Byrom Street near to the central library/museum. He was working as a cabinet maker.
John married Elizabeth MACHELL at St Mary, Edge Hill in Liverpool in 1864. Nancy MACHELL was a witness. At the time John was living on Helena Street, near Walton, and possibly working at Thomas MORRIS' joinery and building business which was located on that street.
John and Elizabeth had seven children between 1866 and 1885. They were John William, Thomas, Edith, Maud, Edward, Charles and Randolph.
Between the baptism of John William in 1867 and Thomas in May 1869 they moved from Helena Street to Breck Road.
Between 1869 and 1871 they were living at 92 Breck Road with sons John William and Thomas, and daughter Elizabeth Ann, aged 1 month (in 1871). It most have been about this time that John stopped cabinet making and become a furniture broker. In June 1871, on his daughter's christening record, he is described as a "sailmaker", which is most likely an error.
By 1873 they had moved to 93 Breck Road, and by 1875 they had moved to 120 Breck Road where he was still living there at the time of his death on 10th March 1913.
John died aged 76. He is buried at Fazakerly in Liverpool.
