John TOOL(E)Y was the father of John TOOL(E)Y, and the grandfather of Anne TOOLY. That's as much as we know for certain.
There were several Tool(e)y families living in Oxfordshire at the time and John was a popular name so it is almost impossible to built an accurate picture.
My working theory is that there were three John Tool(e)y families, one in Bicester and two in Banbury:
- the Bicester family comprised John Tooly, wife, Thomas (c. 6 May 1677, Bicester), John (c. 30 Jan 1678, Bicester) and William (c. 27 Feb 1680, Bicester)
- Banbury family #1 were slatiers/slatters, and comprised John Tool(e)y, Anne Griffine (m. 2 Apr 1676 Banbury), John (c. 8 Apr 1677 Banbury) and Thomas (c. 12 May 1678 Banbury, son of a 'slatier'). A John Tooly, slatter, was buried 6 May 1687, in Banbury.
- Banbury family #2 were weavers, comprised John Tool(e)y, Elizabeth Bucher (m. 12 Jan 1680 Banbury), and John (c. 17 Jun 1683). A John Tooly, weaver, was buried 8 Dec 1683, in Banbury
I'm guessing that Anne Tooly (c. 31 May 1705, Bicester) was the daughter of the Bicester John's son John (c. 30 Jan 1678, Bicester).
One of the three John seniors was born 19 May 1656 in Banbury, and was the son of a John Tooly, possibly the one c. 27 Aug 1622 Banbury, son of Thomas (c. 22 Jan 1598 Banbury) and Myllicent.
A John Tooley, probably one of the Banbury infants, was buried 12 Feb 1685-6, in Banbury.
