In 1798 Thomas was assessed for Land Tax at the rate of 16 shillings and ninepence ha'penny in Scalthwaiterigg, Hay and Hutton with Hay, which is half way between Grayrigg and Kendal.
There are several baptismal records for a Thomas ROWLANDSON in Kendal:
- 28 Mar 1736, Kendal by James and Margaret
- 5 Apr 1741, Kendal by Thomas
- 16 Mar 1745, Kendal by Thomas and Jane
No obvious marriage record exists for a Thomas ROWLANDSON and an Anne, but it is likely to have occurred in 1774/5.
His daughter Mary, who was born in Whinfell, was living in Scalthwaiterigg when married to Thomas MACHELL in 1803, aged 20.
Other information:
A Charles ROWLANDSON of Scalthwaiterigg, Kendal, yeoman was named in the conveyance of a properties at 8, 10, 12, 14 Far Cross Bank, Kendal in 1778. Perhaps this was Thomas' father, brother or uncle.
A probate record, containing a will, dated 27 Nov 1813 exists for a Thomas ROWLANDSON, yeoman of the parish of Kendal, but a burial dated 20 Aug 1813 was for a 20 year old, so this will is unlikely to be this Thomas' will.
