Elizabeth ENGLISH was christened in Westport St Mary in 1715 by her parents John and Hester ENGLISH.
Elizabeth married Samuel BROWNING in June 1744. They had seven children, but her first child Elizabeth died when she was six months.
An entry in the Tetbury Overseers Records dated 17 Jun 1754 records an allowance of 7/- to Samuel Browning's ill wife. This was shortly after the baptism of Thomas in May 1754, and could well have referred to Elizabeth.
Samuel BROWNING died on 3 November 1758. Shortly afterwards there are several records made in the Tetbury Overseers Records concerning an allowance to be given to the Widow Browning and her six children.
The first reference is on 13 Nov 1758 when an allowance of 12/- is given. On 11 December an allowance of 12/- for each 4 weeks was recorded. This was clearly insufficient, so the allowance was increased to 18/- on 23 January, when an estimate of her goods was given as £1 7s.
