Thomas SCOTT was born 29 April 1804 in Kendal. He was a journeyman tailor. His father Joseph SCOTT was also a tailor.
Its possible his father was Joseph SCOTT who, like Thomas, was a tailor in Woolpack Yard, Kendal in 1829. (Source: Principal Inhabitants of Cumberland and Westmorland 1829 by Griggs)
The following extract describes Kendal in 1826: "It is situated in a pleasant and healthful valley, with the river Kent washing its southern side. Many of the streets are narrow about the centre of the town, but those which run from thence to the extremities, in various directions, are more spacious; and the houses being generally whitened, and the roofs covered with blue slate, gives the whole a very clean and striking appearance."
He appears to have had nine children with his wife Hannah WEBSTER whom he married on 10 Jun 1824.
Thomas and Hannah are identified as the parents of John SCOTT on his birth certificate of 1837 at which time they were living at Woolpack Yard, Stricklandgate, Kendal. Thomas is identified as a tailor.
At the time of the 1851 Census Thomas was a tailor and was living at 48 Highgate, Kendal, with three sons including John, aged 13.
Thomas died there on September 6th 1859 aged 54 years. No will is available.
