John MARR was currier. A currier is a specialist in the leather processing industry. After the tanning process, the currier applies techniques of dressing, finishing and colouring to a tanned hide to make it strong, flexible and waterproof. The leather is stretched and burnished to produce a uniform thickness and suppleness, and dyeing and other chemical finishes give the leather its desired colour.
He was christened on 14 Jul 1739 by John MARR, probably in Kendal.
John married Mary SUMMERS on 17 Feb 1761. A 1761 marriage bond exists for this marriage with John MARR, aged 21, recorded as being a currier.
John MARR was buried on 1 Aug 1774 in Kendal aged 35.
A probabte record consisting of an administrative bond only, dated 8 Aug 1774, for a John MARR of Kendal, husband of Mary, provides further confirmation that the burial and christening dates are thos of this John MARR.
