Martha was christened in Bicester on 18 Jan 1796. (Her christening record is the only record returned from the following search: Martha Mortimer (Exact Spelling: Off), Birth/Christening, 1777 - 1817, Oxford, England, British Isles. That she is born in Bicester where she later married and raised a family lends further credibility to her identity.)

Martha was one of nine children born to Thomas MORTIMORE and Hannah HORWOOD.

Martha married Thomas STOKES on St George's Day, 23 April, 1816 in Bicester, where they were both then living. James BLINKER, Martha's brother-in-law (husband of sister Judith) was a witness to the marriage.

They had 10 children between 1816 and 1840. They were all christened in Churchill except their first child, Thomas, who was christened in Bicester. They were: Thomas, William, James, John, Hannah, Jesse, Ann, William, Helen and Jane.

In 1861 Martha is living with her daughter Jane's family.
