Anne WILLIAMS married John STOKES in Sarsden, Oxfordshire in 1744. He was from Churchill, she was living in Sarsden.
They had nine children with the first three children being baptized in Kingham and the remainder in Churchill. Churchill is midway between Sarsden and Kingham which are about two miles apart.
Their son William died aged 2 in 1757, but horrifically, in October/November 1759, Mary, John, Ann and their second William all died within days of each other leaving just Samuel and the infant Thomas (my 5x great grandfather) alive. There was no mass epidemic in 1759 reported and not many other Churchill residents succumbed, suggesting that the infection was restricted to the family. Indeed they may have been quarantined with Thomas being excepted due to his age. Another catastrophic possibility was a house fire.
