Richard EDEN baptized Thomas and Mary EDEN in Chipping Campden in 1677 and 1680. Based on later family records the family may have been living in Ebrington, 2 miles to the east.
There were two other family clusters of EDEN/EDDONs related to Richard EDENs or similar which may have been related or the same person as this Richard:
- In Brailes, two different Richard EDDONS baptized 3 children between 1658 and 1660
- In Tredington, a Richard EDDON of Brailes married a Mary WHATCOAT of Tredington in 1662/63
- In Brailes (10 miles from Ebrington), Richard EDDON (and presumably Mary WHATCOAT) baptized 10 children between 1665 and 1685. NB these baptisms clash with some of the Ilmington and Chipping Campden baptisms. Therefore this Richard EDDON is likely to be a more distant relation, although he could be a cousin.
- In Ilmington (4.5 miles from Ebrington), a Richard EDEN, son of Nathaniel EDEN of Ilmington, baptized 5 children between 1663 and 1671/72
It is possible that the Ilmington Richard EDEN moved to Ebrington, possibly after the death of his wife, which would explain the 4-5 year gap in baptisms between 1671/72 and 1677. It is also possible that he was one of the Richard EDDONs who baptized children in Brailes between 1658 and 1660. Its less likely that he was the Richard EDDON of Brailes who married Mary WHATCOAT in Tredington, because a Mary EDDON, wife of Richard, died in Brailes in Dec 1671. Although if she died in childbirth then her death is still consistent with a baptism in Ilmington in January 1671/72.
But as there is no document linking these clusters of EDEN/EDDONs with Richard EDEN of Chipping Campden, they will remain unlinked.
